Two days after the “call” , exactly a year after the date of the First Northern California murders. Zodiac’s letter containing a “square” of the victim Stine’s bloody shirt arrived at Belli’s home. Unopened it was forwarded down to his business office to be eventually opened by his personal secretary. It was directly addressed to one “Mr. Melvin M. Belli 1228 Mtgy San Fran California”.
Neatly folded inside of the four by seven inch white envelope was a portion of Stine’s blood soaked shirt and as well a message on felt tip pen. A photocopy of the message was hand carried by a legal associate to Belli. Room # 293 of the Bayershoff Hotel.
Belli opened it it promptly and read” Dear Melvin. This is the Zodiac speaking. I wish you a most merry and Happy Christmas. The one thing that i ask of you is this, please help me. I cannot reach out for help because of this thing in me won’t let me. I am finding it extremely difficult to hold it in check I am afraid I will will lose control again and take my ninth and possibly tenth victim. Please help me . I am drowning. At the moment the children are safe from the bomb because it is so massive to dig in and trigger requires so much work to get it adjusted just right. But if I hold back too long from no nine, I will lose complete control. all control of my self and set the bomb up.
It appears that some of the Vallejo police tended to agree with the expert author on the subject of the Bay Area Zodiac , Mr. Robert Greysmith, and some do not. The results were equivocal. Apparently there was more than a bit of circumstantial evidence in Greysmith’s methods and overall conclusions. Still there appeared to be more than a bit of truth and hard facts in it all. It is interesting that just like later in the Official US government Sept 11 terrorist attack report’s findings , that there was a distinct lack of information sharing , and indeed rivalries between the various law enforcement agencies and departments.
For a long duration , and time period it was though that “Zodiac” was still alive , kicking and even prowling. If there had been evidence it most likely would of come to light by now in 2008. For example if he had died evidence would of come to light from his residence or perhaps storage areas. The coroner would of certainly come into or across it. This leads one to more than believe that the “Bay Area Zodiac Killer” is still alive.
“He does prefer knives”. No question about that. It seems and seemed that knives always seemed to be used in the rituals , almost habitualy. It was as if the images of the black magician Aleister Crowley were being used - that of the ceremonial hooded robe. Crosley’s robe, used in arcane rituals was emblazoned with the Rose and Cross of the Secret Order of the Golden Dawn - a crossed circle. If indeed Zodiac was part of a a “Satanic Cult” in accordance with the phases of the moon and religious holidays then that might explain everything , or at the least something. How strange. Stranger and stranger. How else could Zodiac drive so many different cars and vehicles. kill over such a large geographic areas, come in so many dofferent shapes and sizes and write letters in so many different handwriting styles ????? Indeed the hand or hands of Satan had to figure somewhere here in this mystery or mysteries.

Twelve hours later the Chronicle received an anonymous call yet again. “This is the Zodiac and it is the last time that I am going to call. Avery thought it odd that the Zodiac knew newspaper lingo so exactly. Berkley cops combed their files , but could not find the plate number.
It seemed that during the summer Leigh’s childhood friend , a Mr. Huffman, had driven Leigh’s Volkswagen Dasher auto to Vallejo in order to introduce his eight year old son to Allen Leigh. Harold Huffman had married Leigh’s friend - Kay. Kay herself had noted and reported that ” I had seen Harold play football ans swim. Therefore I knew who he was , but had never met him. At the end of my junior year at college , a mutual friend introduced us/ He had come back to see the sports coaches. He had offered me a ride or lift back home. I took the offer without questions or thought. I offered him coffee inside and things being what they were - it all went along the path. A series of demonic posession and brimstone clung to the Zodiac. Intelligent , compulsive , yet never original in the true sense of originality was he that intelligent or just a “copycat” or even a cheater taking other people’s scripts and tales , claiming them as his own tales. It could be more than noted that his basic modus operand i and themes were from a watch watch , a movie and more than unknown distant film of little repute as well as record.
In what was deciphered of a three part cryptogram the Zodiac seemingly explained his primary motivation - an obsession with Richard Connell’s thrilling adventure story ” The most dangerous Game”.

Indeed none other than Erin Hallisy had reported in the San Francisco Chronicle that the “Man once suspected of being the “Zodiac Killer” who taunts police and terrorized Northern California with threats of murder had died previously in Vallejo of a massive heart attack at the ripe age of 58.
It had occured in 1971 attention had focused on Arthur Leigh Allen , when it came to be and occured that friends as well as relatives told police that this person that they knew - Mr. Allen , was behaving erratically and even emotionally . Its as if the person is phoning the Schmendrick and yelling into a phone , complete with caller ID- I am Lawton Partner and I will cut your balls off. What was more than incredible was that it appeared that the Zodiac had noted or even written down for storeage all of the victim’s Zodiac signs. A high degree of planning , preparation and even follow through. All with great levels of attention to detail and indeed professionalism. A taste of marketing experience.
What did the victim’s have in common ? Similar birth dates ? Similar locations or interests ? Similar buying patterns or even automobiles ? Similar stockbrokers or investment analysts ? ? Did they shop at the same supermarket ? Bank at the same bank or credit union ? Use the same gas station or credit card type ?
Angry at a bank or financial institution ? Even drink the same beer or liquor ? Or gouge themselves at the same restaurant or cafe ? The list of similarities to check for consistencies goes on and on and indeed could go on forever and a day .
The very next day a Zodiac kind of cipher arrived to the Post. It may of coincidentally been the same person or fellow from four years before. The descriptions seemed to match to some share of degree. On examination it appeared that by using a simple mirror the Zodiac ( or this reincarnation or copycat of the Zodiac killer) seemed to have created mirror images or isomers of the left hand side of the symbols creating a new variety of intrinsic symbols. All new and improved characters of the Zodiac in his very likeness.
It is as if they are mirror image naval flags , based on the maritime systems of International Flags and Pennants - symbols in their own rights. Translations - “This is the Zodiac speaking. I am in control through great and the greatest mastery. Be ready for much more. Yours truly and sincerely - the greatest Zodiac of them all”.
There were and were not levels of similarity between this Zodiac, the original Zodiac killer - or was it the real original Zodiac come to call - or the latest version and reincarcanation of yet another copy cat of the Zodiac killer ? Who knew and who could discern the difference between all ?
The police had confirmed the use of a 22 caliber ballistic match. That was for sure.
It appeared that this time that the representation and follow though was all more than very different that the “original Zodiac”. It could even be portrayed and thought of “Zodiac 3″. Copycats and more copycats all in all. It is as if as “everyone wants in on a piece of the action.” This time the Zodiac did not stalk his victims as he had done in 1990 and the 1990’s but rather the victims and targeted to be victims were seemingly chosen at random, completly at random. How sad. How evil. How deranged.
The 1990 Zodiac had a pattern of striking and attacking mainly on Tuesdays. Perhaps it was his “day off of work” or perhaps it was after a long weekend binge , or even after a four day weekend of preperation and research. On top of that the pattern or patterns involved certain and specific star of astrological clusters in the sky and heavens. Not so in this case the latest Zodiac victims if this apply named Zodiac number 3 , or the latest copycat with the random moves. The old initiial Zodiac had aimed for the victim’s torsos , the new aimed directly for the head. However one could never know, one could never be certain. It could be the same individual Zodiac killer only in a new , merchandiced and packaged form.
